Keeping It 100: Coalition Conversations - Episode #12
The purpose of this event is to introduce middle, high, and recent high school grads to various college and career options while also providing an overview of the NCBW-MBR scholarship program to increase interest in that initiative. Students will be provided with a high level overview of each college/university through a brief panel presentation where representatives will spend 2-3 minutes touching on high level highlights regarding their school which may include information regarding programming options, the admissions/application process, financial aid (scholarships, grants, internships, work study programs), and student life (campus organizations, school culture, volunteering and mentoring opportunities, housing, dining, navigating the campus, athletics, the 1st year experience). Students will also be given the opportunity to speak to a representative from particular schools that they are interested in in a small group setting to ask more specific questions. A career exploration panel will introduce possible career trajectories to students while highlighting Coalition Sisters from a variety of careers and at various levels of the career ladder. The Scholarship subcommittee will provide an overview of the scholarship program.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter hosted its annual Pink Fascinator Tea, a sold-out event dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness! This impactful gathering highlighted the chapter’s commitment to raising awareness of breast cancer disparities within the African American community. Dr. Constance Blunt, Medical Director of Cancer Prevention and Outreach at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, served as the keynote speaker, offering invaluable insight into the importance of self-examinations, annual mammograms, and recognizing early signs and symptoms of breast cancer. The event also celebrated the inspiring journeys of three breast cancer survivors—Sandra Glenn, Tracy Neldare, and Rashaunda Williams—who courageously shared their personal stories of strength and hope during the video presentation Through the Lens of a Survivor. This premier six-month leadership development program has empowered eleven exceptional members to cultivate their leadership prowess while actively engaging in community upliftment. Participants underwent a series of rigorous sessions designed to bolster their organizational impact and foster personal and professional growth. The culmination of this transformative journey was marked by a heartfelt graduation ceremony, where distinguished guest speaker Kathy Fletcher Victorian imparted invaluable insights on leadership, inspiring all with her words of wisdom.
